Karole Kasita Accuses Stakeholders of Using Artists as Copyright Law Remains Unpassed

Date:

Dancehall musician Karole Kasita has revealed that the time for artists’ demands regarding the Copyright law has already passed.

Karole, during a YouTube interview, revealed that as an artist, she had lost all hope of getting the Copyright law that was aimed to help creatives earn from their craft.

Last year, the UNMF president, Eddy Kenzo, revealed that they were a step closer to the long-awaited Copyright Amendment Law being passed. He explained that it had already been gazetted and set to be presented to the parliamentary committee for debate.

They have, however, not received any update, and Karole Kasita believes that the ship has already sailed and that they will not get what they had hoped for. She revealed that the artists were exploited and used with the hope that they would finally be rewarded with the bill amendment, but they later realized that it was a lie.

At some point, we had hope and felt like it was coming because what does it take? I feel like it doesn’t take that long for someone to make up their mind. We have been on this for a long time, and you get to a certain stage in life and feel that that is the point they have to give you what you have asked for. They used to listen to us and could easily give us whatever we asked for, but now we are past that point, in that even when we try to ask for it, we might not get it. They have used, exploited us, and all the hope we had has been thrown away.

Karole noted that she gave up the fight and left it to the relevant parties. She credited Eddy Kenzo for sacrificing himself and taking up the burden of demanding the Copyright for himself. She acknowledged his efforts and hoped it would finally pay off someday.

Personally, I left it to the people beyond us who had said they would help us out. My friend Eddy is sacrificing himself for this industry, and if we do not benefit from what he is doing, I will personally look for him and beat him, she said.
