Musician Gift Ov Kaddo has issued a stern warning to all local music platforms that have previously uploaded his music for free downloads, following the advancement of the Copyright Amendment Bill.
Gift Ov Kaddo, speaking in his recent interview, expressed bitterness, naming music download websites like Howeebiz and DJ Erycom in particular, saying they were pirating his music and, in turn, selling it without paying him his royalties.
Following the recently passed Copyright Amendment bill, which will see creatives earn from their craft and also fight piracy, Gift Ov Kaddo wants these particular sites to take down his work, which he says they obtained for free.
Directing his anger towards DJ Erycom, Kaddo claimed that he had been selling artists’ music for years but had never given them a single coin. With this money, he has been able to acquire properties and construct a hotel in Masaka, which he says was all earned from royalties from their songs.
“I don’t want him to sell my music anymore. You cannot even call me to talk to me, but every song that we release, you quickly upload it for sale. Who gives you the right? Delete my songs. I do not want you to use me as a slave anymore,” he said.
Kaddo is among the musicians who have stood the test of time with some of the best songs in the 2000’s. After all these years, he says he has not earned any money from his music. He accused the industry stakeholders of using him as a slave as they exploited his talent.

“They see me as a fool but do not know how much I invest in that music. Music is expensive; we don’t dress well or eat what we want because we are sacrificing money to give people music. Yet you get it for free and sell it. Sometimes I feel pain. That is what they base their claim on, saying that we are faded. Are you raising the industry or throwing it down? “ Gift Ov Kaddo questioned.
Gift Ov Kaddo instructs websites that upload his music to remove it immediately; these include DJ Erycom, Howwe Biz, among others, accusing them of selling artists’ music without their approval, and profiting from it, leaving the artists with nothing. pic.twitter.com/my17aXIkr5
