The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has confirmed receiving over 381 petitions arising from the recently concluded and ongoing party primaries, with allegations ranging from vote rigging to underage voting.
Speaking at a press briefing on July 25, 2025, at Kololo plot 31, NRM Director of Legal Services, Counsel Enoch Barata, revealed that the party’s Elections Disputes Tribunal is now fully prepared to begin addressing the mounting complaints starting July 29 through to September 1.
“People are bringing in their petitions. As of now, over 381 petitions have been filed,” Barata stated, emphasizing the party’s commitment to transparency and justice.
The tribunal, chaired by lawyer John Musime, has been structured into eight panels each composed of three legal professionals tasked with handling approximately 56 petitions per day. The panels will receive, hear, and resolve electoral disputes brought forward by aggrieved NRM members across the country.
Most of the petitions come from the parliamentary primaries held on July 17 and cite serious electoral malpractices such as multiple voting, and participation by underage voters.
Counsel Musime clarified that while the tribunal is mandated to resolve civil electoral grievances within the party, any criminal elements unearthed during the process will be referred to law enforcement agencies.

To ensure order and efficiency, each complainant and respondent will be limited to a five-member team during the hearing sessions, including legal representatives where applicable and .
Despite the party’s assurances, some NRM candidates have expressed skepticism over the process. They warn that if the tribunal fails to deliver credible justice, they may consider running as independents in the 2026 general elections or withdrawing from the party altogether.
