Nasty Accident Claims Priest’s Life

The Catholic community in Ibanda District is mourning the uncertain demise of Rev. Fr. Wycliff Byamugisha, who tragically lost his life in a fatal road accident on Sunday.

Fr. Byamugisha was traveling to officiate mass when the tragic event happened near the Nyahoora Trading Center on the Mbarara-Ibanda highway.

As a priest at Nyabukikye Center Catholic Church, Fr. Byamugisha was well-known for his strong religious beliefs and steadfast devotion to his parishioners.Following his untimely death in a car accident on Sunday, Rev. Fr. Wycliff Byamugisha passed away too soon, leaving the Catholic community in Ibanda District in mourning.

His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and admired him. Father Charles Mutabaruka, the head of communications for the Mbarara Catholic Archdiocese, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

It is truly unfortunate that we have lost Father Byamugisha. We implore God to grant us strength in this challenging moment,” he stated, highlighting the impact of the tragedy on the diocese and the Catholic community.

Rwizi Region Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the accident and mentioned that inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the crash.

“As law enforcement, we have initiated investigations to comprehend what led to this sorrowful incident,” he conveyed to the media

Fr. Byamugisha’s body was transported to Ruhoko Health Center IV for a postmortem examination, as authorities continue to collect information about the accident.

The abrupt passing of Fr. Byamugisha has evoked a profound sense of sorrow in the community he served with resolute dedication. He is to be laid at the Mbarara Cemetery.
