Jacob Kiplimo Shines With Second-Place Finish In Marathon Debut At 2025 London Marathon

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo made a spectacular full marathon debut at the 2025 London Marathon, claiming second place with a blistering time of 2:03:37. The half marathon world record holder proved he could contend over 26.2 miles, staying strong in a fiercely competitive elite field.

The race was won by Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe, who surged ahead in the final stretch to cross the line in 2:02:27. Sawe’s dominant performance edged out Kiplimo, while fellow Kenyan and 2024 champion Alexander Mutiso Munyao rounded out the podium in third with a time of 2:04:20.

Now in its 45th edition, the London Marathon drew over 56,000 participants and massive support from enthusiastic crowds lining the course. Kiplimo’s standout performance was a highlight of the day, as he held pace with the lead pack until Sawe broke away late in the race.

Great Britain’s Mahamed Mahamed was the top domestic finisher, taking ninth in 2:08:52, while Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee finished 12th in 2:11:08 in his marathon debut.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa made history by winning in 2:15:50, setting a new world record for a women-only marathon.

The event also aimed to set a new world record for the most finishers in a single marathon, adding to the excitement of an already unforgettable day in the British capital.
