A Pass Says He’d Be Bigger in East Africa If He Moved to Kenya, Says Local Fans are Unappreciative

Date:

Ugandan musician A Pass has opened up about the state of the music industry, projecting that he would be one of the biggest artists in East Africa if he followed his career in countries like Kenya.

During his live stream with his fans, A Pass expressed his disappointment with the local music industry and its fans for not appreciating and supporting their own talents.

He explained that the fans have continuously put artists in a box, forcing them to release music that is just ‘Ugandan appealing’, and when they go outside that narrative, their music will flop.

“If I went to Kenya for only a year, I would be one of the biggest artists in East Africa, which can never happen in Uganda because I wouldn’t be doing music that is just Ugandan appealing. And if we do not change our mentality, we have a problem, because in countries like Nigeria, they thrive because they don’t live off one artist. In Uganda, people want to make it look like it is one big artist, which is the most stupid thing I have ever seen in my life,” he said.

He revealed that he was willing to prove his argument by relocating to Kenya for a year because they would most likely appreciate his good work.

He described the Uganda fanbase as ignorant and unappreciative, who always fight to bring down the good stars and instead promote the senseless music.

He hailed the Nigerian music industry, which he says has thrived because the fanbase has supported good talent rather than particular individuals.

The Ugandan audience lacks sense. It is the truth because the majority of the songs that trend here are stupid. Then you see someone saying we are not doing enough.  What do you want me to do? If I can release music all the time, shoot videos, and go out, then you tell me I lack promotion; what do you mean, yet you are promotion?  How many songs has Wizkid promoted in Uganda? The people complaining about me are the ones promoting his music. There is no artist who is big without the support of the fans. Our fans cannot support me if I don’t make a song with Beyonce,” he said.
