Security Guards Rob Cash From Cash Transiting Van

Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire has disclosed how security guards affiliated to G4S, a security company managed to rob about One billion shillings from a cash transiting vehicle.

Owoyesigire said that the two security guards allegedly combined to see the success of their mission in Rubaga, a Kampala suburb. he incident is said to have happened on November 19, 2024. These guards are said to have diverted a bullion van from its usual route. The van registered under UAJ 199T is said to have been transporting the cash from Lubowa to Nakasero.

In the bid to trace the van, security discovered it with two rifles in Nabunya village, Rubaga division.

“The stolen cash amounted to One Billion, Sixty-Nine Million, Four Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ugandan Shillings (UGX 1,069,420,000) and USD 14,474,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police stated.

Police quickly swung into action and the investigations led them to arrest one of the suspects known as Otim Ambrose Richard who was arrested from Kwania District. Otim was found with a cash possession of Shs 117m which is believed to be part of the looted cash.

“Investigations are ongoing, and more details will be shared as soon as they are available. We are committed to recovering the remaining money and bringing all culprits to justice,” added ASP Owoyesigyire.

Efforts to arrest the other alleged suspects and also recover the remainder of the money have been intensified by Police.
