Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Sworn In for 2026–2031 Presidential Term

12 May 2026 will forever be a watershed moment in the history of Uganda, following Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing in as the president of Uganda.

Museveni’s swearing in follows the January general elections, where Ugandans countrywide actively participated in the general elections to determine the next fount of honor.

Following the elections, on 17 January 2026, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, declared Museveni as victorious with 7,946,772 votes, beating his opponents, including Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine.

Preparations to see that Museveni officially takes over the office have been ongoing and culminated today at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, graced by thousands of guests from different corners of the world.

The development officially marks Museveni’s 2026-2031 Presidential Term, and has been met with excitement from his supporters, who have congratulated him on his new political journey.
