Gospel singer Julie Jean Birungi, formerly Julie Mutesasira, has expressed her disappointment in fellow artists for refusing to perform at her show at the last minute.
Julie Birungi, over the weekend, had a show in Toronto, dubbed âAn Evening with Julieâ, where she treated the audience to her story and a night of love songs and worship. She had a list of guest artists lined up, including Judith Babirye, Vivian Tendo, Jackie Ssenyonjo, and Mr Samuel, among others.
However, on the D-day, the entire line-up didnât turn up, leaving Julie and her children, Ezekiel and Esther, to perform. Speaking after the show, Julie revealed that she had started planning the show last year and reached out to everyone whom she thought would be at the show.
She, however, believes that they chose to disappoint her at the last minute because they didnât want to mingle with her, citing her sexuality.
Julie, a former pastorâs wife, turned lesbian and married a woman after relocating to Canada. She believes that the set of artists that she had once considered her friends shunned her because of that.

âYou might be wondering why these artists are not here today, because Iâm different in the way they feel Iâm different. These are the people I called my friends. We used to laugh, cry together, make jokes, and be there for each other. But then I was wrong. I have never needed them, but at the back of my mind, I knew I had friends to run to when I needed them. I guess I was wrong,â Julie said.
She revealed that they kept calling her and giving excuses as to why they wouldnât turn up, and she believes that, regardless of her lifestyle, they were supposed to love and not discriminate against her.
