Udongo ready to challenge Mavenjina for position of Older Persons in Northern Uganda

Date:

Benjamin Udongo Angarr, a retired civil servant, has announced his candidacy to challenge the incumbent MP for Older Persons in Northern Uganda, Catherine Akumu Mavenjina, in the upcoming NRM primaries.

Speaking to Bbeg Media at the NRM headquarters in Kampala, Udongo  criticized Mavenjina’s performance, accusing her of neglecting key service delivery programs for older persons in the region.

“I want to condemn the manner in which Catherine Mavenjina has performed as our MP for older persons. She has never reported to us about the social assistance grants and other service delivery programs from the government. Therefore, we need to vote her out and bring in credible people like me,” Udongo stated.

Leveraging his extensive medical background as a radiographer and former director of the School of Public Health, acting director of Paramedicals, assistant commissioner for Allied Health Professionals, and registrar for the Allied Health Professional Council, Udongo pledged to prioritize affordable healthcare for older persons.

He specifically highlighted plans to improve access to imaging services through an affordable health insurance scheme, addressing the health complications many elderly individuals face.

Beyond healthcare, Udongo committed to tackling pressing issues in Northern Uganda, including access to safe and clean water, decent shelter, and greater participation in government poverty alleviation programs such as the Special Enterprises Grant for Older Persons, Parish Development Model (PDM), and Emyooga.

He aims to defeat not only Mavenjina but also other candidates, including Beatrice Lagada and Dr. Freddy WD Oyat, in the race for the Older Persons’ representative seat for Northern Uganda, which encompasses the West Nile, Acholi, Lango, and Karamoja sub-regions.
