The Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has been elected the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), defeating her predecessor, Rebecca Kadaga, in a resounding victory.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, declared the results late on August 27, 2025, confirming that Among garnered 11,680 votes, representing 92.8 percent of the total cast. Kadaga, the incumbent, trailed with 902 votes, sealing the end of her tenure in the influential party position.
In her victory speech, Among thanked her supporters and extended an olive branch to Kadaga, acknowledging her legacy within the party.

“I am truly grateful for your love and support, not just today but throughout the campaign trail. With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory.
I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will rely on her for advice and guidance in the days ahead. Let us return to work, mobilize for our party leader and flag bearers, and ensure a resounding victory for the mighty NRM,” she said.
Kadaga conceded defeat but did so amid fresh concerns from her camp over allegations of voter bribery and corruption during the polls. The NRM Electoral Commission, however, maintained that the elections were free and fair.
In another major shift within the party’s top leadership, David Echodu Calvin was declared the new National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, replacing veteran politician Mike Mukula, who conceded without contest.
Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune was elected as the new NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region (Buganda), replacing Godfrey Ssuubi Kiwanda in the party’s top leadership structure. Dr Asiimwe Jonard defeated Minister of Information and ICT Chris Baryomunsi as Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, while Obua Hamson took it for Northern Uganda with 67.4% of the vote.
The NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections are critical in shaping the party’s internal dynamics and preparing its machinery ahead of the 2026 general elections.
