Police have arrested a security guard, Ndamuwa Joseph, over an alleged aggravated robbery at Mukadwe Hardware in Kasangati, Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, the incident occurred on February 14, 2025, in Wampewo, Kasangati Division. Joseph, who was employed by Detailed Security Services, allegedly turned against his employer, stealing UGX 79 million that was meant for deposit at Standard Chartered Bank.
“It is alleged that the suspect, instead of ensuring the safe delivery of the money, grabbed the cash and fled on a motorcycle,” Owoyesigire said while addressing the media at police headquarters in Naguru on Monday February 17, 2025.
According to Owoyesigire, Police responded immediately after receiving information about the theft, leading to a hot pursuit. Officers intercepted the suspect at Naalya Roundabout, recovering approximately UGX 70 million, an SKS rifle, and two rounds of ammunition.
“The suspect was tracked down in a swift operation. We commend our officers for the quick response, which ensured that most of the stolen money was recovered,” Owoyesigire added.
Ndamuwa was transported back to Kasangati Police Station, where he remains in custody. Authorities are continuing investigations and making efforts to recover the missing UGX 8 million.
“We urge security companies to thoroughly vet their personnel and strengthen internal monitoring to prevent such incidents,” Owoyesigire urged.
Police have also warned individuals against attempting to obstruct justice, stating that anyone found in possession of the missing funds or aiding the suspect will face prosecution.
