President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will today, Saturday 5th July 2025, be officially nominated to contest as the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the party’s presidential flag bearer for the 2026 General Elections.
According to a statement issued Friday by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), Museveni’s nomination will take place at the NRM Electoral Commission offices, marking the culmination of months of extensive wealth creation tours across Uganda.
The development follows months of extensive nationwide wealth creation tours, during which the President traversed all 18 zones of the country under the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Throughout these engagements, local leaders and communities repeatedly urged President Museveni to continue his leadership, citing the peace, stability, and socio-economic progress achieved under his administration since 1986.
“The enthusiasm surrounding President Museveni’s candidacy reflects a widespread appreciation for the achievements made under his presidency, particularly in fostering a peaceful and stable environment that has enabled Uganda to flourish,” the PPU statement noted.
Among the key priorities highlighted by supporters were advancements in agriculture, infrastructure, education, and healthcare, all of which they said have been anchored in the stability ushered in by Museveni’s leadership.
“Ugandans from various regions underscored how the peace cultivated over decades has been a fundamental pillar for growth across numerous sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development,” the statement highlighted.
In line with NRM Electoral Commission requirements, all aspirants for the positions of Party Chairman and Presidential flag bearer must collect at least 100 endorsement signatures from National Conference members representing different regions.
Party officials have described the upcoming nomination as a significant milestone that will set the stage for a vigorous electoral campaign ahead of the 2026 polls.
As preparations intensify, there is a strong sense of anticipation among NRM supporters who see Museveni’s candidature as the surest guarantee of continuity, stability, and continued economic growth.
