State Minister for Microfinance, Minister Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo, has officially confirmed his candidacy for the position of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Buganda, and on Wednesday August 6, 2025, he visited Bulange Mengo to seek blessings from the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.
During their meeting, Kasolo expressed his commitment to serve the people of Buganda and Uganda at large, while also reaffirming his respect for the Buganda Kingdom and its leadership.
“My visit to the Katikkiro is part of my broader consultations. As I continue this journey, I believe in seeking guidance and blessings from cultural leaders who hold the trust of our people,” Kasolo said after the meeting.
The Katikkiro welcomed Kasolo’s gesture, praising him for showing humility and recognizing the importance of cultural institutions, even while pursuing a political path.
“It’s important for all political candidates to seek support in a peaceful, respectful manner. We encourage leaders to promote unity, avoid confrontations, and respect diverse opinions,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.
He also thanked Kasolo for actively participating in Buganda Kingdom’s programs and reiterated the importance of working with leaders who understand and support the Kabaka’s vision for Buganda.
“Minister Kasolo has demonstrated a clear understanding of the Kabaka’s priorities and a willingness to contribute to the Kingdom’s development, especially in the areas outlined in the Five Key Priorities,” Katikkiro Mayiga added.
The Five Key Priorities (Ssemansonga Ettaano) of the Buganda Kingdom include, Promoting good health, providing quality education, strengthening household income, preserving culture and Building unity among people
Kasolo’s visit to Mengo comes as the NRM gears up for its internal elections, where several leaders are competing for key positions in the central region.
His continued engagement with cultural leaders is seen as a strategic move to strengthen his ties with grassroots communities across Buganda.
