Kabale-Residents of Kabungo in Mwendo Parish, Kitumba Sub-county of Ndorwa West, have voiced frustration over the lack of access to clean water despite the fact that water distributed throughout Kabale District is pumped from Lake Bunyonyi, located in their own area.
This concern came to light during a community engagement held yesterday at Harutinda Trading Center, where Counsel Atwebembeire Wilbroad Rwamunahe Wamushinja, an aspirant for the Kabale District LC5 Chairperson seat, met with locals as part of his ongoing campaign trail.
Residents, visibly discontented, questioned why they have no access to the clean water sourced from their area, even though it serves the rest of the district. “We don’t understand how clean water can be pumped from our own backyard and yet we have no access to it,” said Chance Herbert, one of the angry residents. “Do we not deserve clean water and good roads like others in the district?”
Several other residents, who requested anonymity, expressed dissatisfaction with the current district leadership, claiming it has failed to deliver basic services such as clean water, roads, and healthcare. Many called for change and demanded leaders who will prioritize the needs of the local population.
In response, Counsel Wamushinja criticized the current district administration for failing to take advantage of government programs. He revealed that Parliament had approved a resolution allocating UGX 1 billion per district for road maintenance, but said Kabale District has failed to effectively utilize these funds due to what he termed “weak leadership.”
He pledged to reverse this trend if elected, promising to improve service delivery across the district. “My leadership will focus on roads, health, education, and access to clean water,” Wamushinja said.
He added that he plans to strengthen the education sector by introducing termly assessment exams to support academic performance among learners.
Wamushinja concluded by assuring residents that under his leadership, every community would benefit equally, and their concerns would no longer be ignored.
