JUST IN: Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, 3 Other Activists Get Bail

Date:

Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, veteran activist Ingrid Turinawe, other activists Phiona Kyabayiza, Faridah Nangonzi and Shadia Namubiru have been granted bail.

The four who appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 10th March, 2025 chanting slogans were each given non- cash bail of Shs500,000.

This temporary freedom comes after spending weeks on remand following their arrest during a protest over veteran opposition politician, Dr Kizza Besigye’s detention.

The hearing of the case has been scheduled to 23rd April, 2025.

Earlier, their bail application scheduled for Tuesday, 25th February, 2025 flopped after the prison authorities failed to produce them to court because they had insisted on dressing in T-shirts with political slogans.

According to the Chief Magistrate, the group insisted that they could only come to court when dressed in T-shirts with political slogans which the Prison authorities declined to permit.

Efforts to convince the group to put on other attires fell to deaf ears with the Nyanjura group insisting they could only present themselves on the T-shirts or naked.
