Date:

Canadian based gospel singer and former parliamentarian Judith Babirye has opened up about her top regrets in her life as an artist and politician. She is one of the few musicians who has received such great love and support from Ugandans, and before to joining politics, she was earning very good money from her music.

The former Buikwe District women representative in parliament‘s life was transformed when she entered politics. She began to experience problems in her family, including accusations that she snatched a husband. She claimed that when she entered politics, she lost a great deal. She had acquired acquaintances in many political circles. Nevertheless, they began to view her differently after she was elected to the parliament.

While appearing in an interview, Judith Babirye revealed that veering off the musical course to pursue politics was detrimental to her career, as it deprived her of her freedom to connect with people.

Judith Babirye noted that during her political tenure, she missed rubbing shoulders with people she shares backgrounds with like Bobi Wine, Erias Lukwago, and Nabakooba among others as her position exempted her from the freedom of associating with them.

I regret the fact that I joined politics because I didn’t know what I was joining. Looking back it created a distinction between me and my friends in other parties and honestly I am not a politician.” she said.

It should be noted that Judith Babirye served one term as a member of parliament. She didn’t contest again and she doesn’t have plans of ever rejoining politics again. The singer has permanently resettled in Canada and doesn’t seem to have plans of returning to Uganda.
