MBALE DISTRICT
In what appears to be a premeditated move to rig NRM Primary elections, the number of registered voters in Bufumbo Sub County exceeds the UBOS 2024 population figure.
Whereas UBOS puts the total population of Bufumbo Sub County at 10,942, the NRM register has 11,171 voters. Meanwhile, in Jewa Town Council, the UBOS figure is 5,741, and the NRM register has the same number.
This has prompted the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party office in Mbale district to launch an investigation into allegations of inflated voter numbers in the party registers at two sub-counties.
While speaking to thousands of her supporters on Monday, 7th July, 2025, at Wanale Sub County during NRM joint campaigns Shafiga Wanyenya, the Bungokho North constituency MP aspirant, revealed that the number of registered NRM voters in these sub-counties exceeds the actual population figures according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).
Wanyenya alleges that the NRM district office may have colluded with the incumbent to inflate the voter numbers to rig votes in the upcoming party elections which will not be allowed.
Moses Wambogo, the Mbale district NRM Chairperson, confirmed that an investigation is underway and promised to take action if the allegations are found to be true.
Bonny Wamunga, the Mbale district NRM registrar, attributed the discrepancies to the registration process, where some individuals may have registered multiple times.
He called for calm among candidates and assured that the office would address the issue before the Election Day, scheduled for July 17.
Other candidates vying for the Bungokho North constituency seat include Hussain Wazemba Washagi, Latifu Bulobila, and John Faith Magolo, the incumbent.
