The world football governing body, FIFA, has granted Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial the approval to host local and international matches.

This follows the official certification of its artificial turf under the prestigious ‘FIFA Quality Programme for Football Turf’ standard. Businessman Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, made the announcement on Monday, October 7, marking the stadium’s readiness to host high-calibre football matches on its newly installed Duofilament Mono football turf.

The state-of-the-art turf, installed by Nurteks Hali san.ve  Tic. A.S., a globally renowned company specializing in artificial sports surfaces, underwent extensive testing and inspection. FIFA awarded the turf a clean bill of health, with the certification valid from October 4, 2024, to October 3, 2027.

In a certificate signed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Monday, FIFA confirmed that the football turf system Duofilament Mono had been installed and certified to the ‘FIFA QUALITY PROGRAMME FOR FOOTBALL TURF – FIFA QUALITY’ standard.

“FIFA is pleased to confirm that the football turf system Duofilament Mono has been installed by Nurteks Hali San.ve Tic. A.S. at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial – Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial – Kampala (Uganda). The installation has been tested and certified to the “FIFA QUALITY PROGRAMME FOR FOOTBALL TURF – FIFA QUALITY” standard,” reads a certificate signed off by FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Monday.

This achievement not only boosts Hamz Stadium Nakivubo but also enhances Uganda’s standing in the global football arena. The FIFA endorsement ensures that the facility meets international standards, making it an attractive venue for both domestic and international events.

The certified turf at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial is set to host various football matches, providing opportunities for local talent to play on FIFA-approved grounds and attracting international teams to Kampala. At least three Uganda Premier League clubs have already applied to use the stadium as their home ground in the 2024/25 UPL season, and the FIFA certification comes at an opportune time.

With the new certification, football fans can expect improved playing conditions for players, ensuring high-quality matches in the years to come.”
