English Court Backs dfcu Requests in Crane Bank Hearing – UG Standard

Date:

London, UK – dfcu Bank has gained a procedural advantage in an ongoing legal case against Crane Bank Limited (CBL) at the English High Court. The dispute, which includes allegations against dfcu and other parties, remains in its pre-trial phase, with a full hearing scheduled for October 2026.

During a recent case management conference, the Court concentrated on matters of evidence disclosure rather than the substantive allegations. It agreed with dfcu’s argument that the claimants had not fully met their obligations for document disclosure. Consequently, several of dfcu’s applications for further searches and the production of documents were granted.

Among the orders issued, the Court directed that a mobile phone be submitted for forensic examination by specialists. This is to ascertain whether it holds potentially relevant information. Additionally, an individual was instructed to disclose pertinent documents from their personal email account.

The Court also rejected the claimants’ request to exclude reports prepared by PwC concerning CBL’s management. dfcu has maintained these reports are central to its case, arguing they demonstrate prior mismanagement by CBL’s former owners and support the Bank of Uganda’s actions in resolving CBL.

Throughout these legal proceedings, dfcu has consistently stated that the claims against it are without foundation and has affirmed its intention to mount a robust defence. The bank has also highlighted its commitment to high ethical standards and international best practices.
