The National Unity Platform (NUP) is once again under fire this time for entertaining the possibility of handing an electoral ticket to Mityana Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Joyce Bagala, a move critics have blasted as reckless and politically suicidal.
Bagala, who has increasingly aligned herself with Mathias Mpuuga’s embattled Democratic Front (DF), is being accused by party insiders of sowing discord and ignoring party discipline yet still positioning herself for the party’s endorsement ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“What NUP stands for if not discipline “Giving a ticket to someone who defied leadership decisions in broad daylight is not just weak it’s dangerous,” one vocal supporter asked.
At the heart of the outrage is Bagala’s refusal to step down from a parliamentary committee when asked to do so by the NUP leadership a move many say exposed her deep disregard for internal order.
“That wasn’t just indecent it was raw indiscipline,” said Brayo (real name Ntale Brian), a well-known NUP supporter on X today on Monday July 14, 2025.
Bagala’s actions, critics say, prove she is only interested in clinging to power, not advancing the party’s agenda. “She’s not loyal to the party. She’s only loyal to the card that will keep her in Parliament,” another commentator observed.
Despite being seen at recent Democratic Front gatherings, Bagala has not publicly distanced herself from NUP a calculated strategy, some argue, to secure her reelection while playing both sides.
Disillusioned NUP members accuse the leadership of lacking a backbone when it comes to enforcing discipline.
“What message does it send to other loyal members when defiant individuals are rewarded with party flags?” a source at NUP headquarters asked.
With internal divisions mounting and pressure building ahead of 2026, many wonder whether NUP is learning from its past mistakes or blindly repeating them.
So far, the party has remained tight-lipped on whether Bagala will be officially endorsed. But as frustrations boil over online and within the party ranks, one thing is clear: giving Joyce Bagala a card may just ignite the very chaos NUP claims to stand against.
