Mpaka Records CEO and celebrated musician Ykee Benda, born Wycliff Tugume, has officially taken a significant step toward marriage with his fiancée Emily, as the couple held their kukyala ceremony on Thursday.
The intimate and culturally rich event took place on July 4, 2025, marking a key milestone in the couple’s journey toward marriage. This follows their engagement ceremony, which was held just last month.
Ykee Benda shared heartfelt moments from the kukyala in a touching message on his social media platforms, expressing gratitude and love for his bride-to-be:
“Yesterday, baby took Dadzy to her Daddy! 3 years ago, I made a promise to a young lawyer that I would bring honor to her name and her father’s house. Yesterday was the beginning of fulfilling it. Beautiful as ever, she walked into a room full of family and could barely walk. She knelt down to greet Badman and introduced him to the Old man. The old men met and agreed – the cows and goats – and us, the two love birds, couldn’t be more grateful to God. Emily’s Kukyala 2025 – we thank you all who stood with us. ON TO THE NEXT ONE.”
The kukyala, a traditional Buganda pre-introduction visit, is an essential step in Ugandan marriage customs, symbolizing a man’s formal intent to marry. During the ceremony, Ykee was introduced to Emily’s family, and the families agreed on the bride price arrangements.

The couple is now looking ahead to their introduction ceremony, which is reportedly scheduled to take place in September 2025.
