Wilson Bugembe shares how becoming a born again christian saved him from being a criminal

City Pastor and musician Wilson Bugembe has revealed that he would have been a ‘bad guy’ if he had not given his life to Christ.

Pastor Bugembe made the revelation during his TV interview as he looked back at his childhood struggles. He explained that he went through a lot of pain when he saw his parents and siblings die, sleeping hungry on the streets, among other things, at the age of 13-14.

Even when many street kids turn out to be criminals, Bugembe revealed that he was there for survival and felt he would be disappointing his relatives back home if he participated in the criminal activities. He, however, confessed that if he had not been born again, he would have turned out to be a criminal.

I would be different. Why do you think it was easy for me to be friends with all the bad guys in town? People who grew up in affluent backgrounds often struggle to do that. That is why pastors first doubted me in the beginning,” he said.

Pastor Wilson Bugembe further noted that his street background has made him a likable figure, especially among the youths and celebrities who relate to his situation. He has been hailed as one of the pastors who do not segregate the secular artists, as he hangs out with them and also performs at their shows.

Because of how warmly he welcomes them, many of them feel free around him to the point that they tell him their darkest secrets because they know he won’t judge them. This inspired Pastor Bugembe to start the ‘Celebrity Sundays’ where he invites them to church to pray alongside their fans.

This, however, has sparked a lot of controversy, especially from fellow pastors who accused him of inviting waywardness in a holy place.

If I’m around all these artists, I will be a part of them. I understand them because I went through it. They also do not feel judged. Most of these celebrities live a double life. They live a different life before their fans, but somehow, I have been lucky that they unmasked before me. I know many stories about celebrities, some of which I need permission to even speak about. Off stage, they live a different life, he said.
