Dancehall musician A Pass, real name Bagonza Alexander, has confessed that he doesn’t fancy working with glorified foreign artists.
In an era when local musicians are eyeing international collaborations to tap into markets beyond their borders, A Pass disagrees with the notion.
During his TikTok broadcast, A Pass was asked if he considered collaborating with any Nigerian or Ghanaian female artist. In a candid response, he made it clear that he didn’t need an international artist to push his music.
“I do not fantasize about working with people. Some I do if it were Vybz Kartel, Nicki Minaj. For Africa, not yet. I would love to meet so many artists, but working with them depends on how they are as a person,” he said.
A Pass revealed that the only people he dreamed of hitting the studio with were Vybz Kartel and rapper Nicki Minaj because of their skill set. He noted that he had seen fellow artists struggle with songs they created with artists from other countries, explaining that the foreign stars left them to push and promote the songs on their own.
“Sometimes you work with people, and it is like you are working alone. You push it, invest all your time and energy in it alone, and it still doesn’t make sense. I have seen so many people who collaborate with artists outside Uganda, and they never push the music,” he added.

Regarding his collaboration with Jamaican dancehall sensation Konshens, A Pass is grateful that Konshens put in the effort to promote the song.
“I’m so lucky that the day I worked with Koshens, he pushed that song like it was his. He pushed it as if it were his own song. That is why it is big because he cared, like the song, and for me, I find that a bit weird,” he said.
