Viola Nakitende Converts to Islam, Adopts Name ‘Nahya’

Date:

Renowned singer Viola Nakitende has announced that she has embraced the Islamic faith and added the name ‘Nahya’ to mark her conversion.

Nakitende, who was born a Christian, appeared in a TV interview in which she revealed how proud she was to have converted.

She explained that her fascination with Islam stemmed from the fact that she had grown up around Muslims almost all her life.

I have grown up around Muslims. My O-level, I stayed with my mother, and she was a Muslim. All my paternal aunties are Muslim and got married to Muslim men.

Her connection to Islam deepened further through her music career, where she met her current manager, Kitonsa, a devoted Muslim.

Nakitende revealed that while traveling for performances, Kitonsa and his colleagues would always make time to stop and perform swalla (prayers).

What struck her was that every time they prayed for something in particular, it always came to pass, hence convincing her that Islam was the only true religion.

Every time she saw us park somewhere for Swalla, she asked God to bless our journey. When everything turned out well, she believed that prayers always worked. She decided to change her faith after talking about it for so long.  In Islam, we do not force people. Someone confesses with their mouth, and I’m happy for her,” Kitonsa said as he gifted her with a praying mat.
