Date:

KABALE — Veteran journalist and former 96.2 Diocese of Kigezi Revival Radio station manager, Stephen Rupiiha Jack Habimana, has been officially nominated to contest for the position of Kabale District Chairperson as an independent candidate.

His nomination was confirmed on Friday at the Kabale District Council Hall, where he pledged to wage a tough fight against corruption, which he described as a vice crippling service delivery and development in the district.

“Corruption has become the song of the day in our district, and it must be stopped,” Habimana told journalists shortly after being cleared.

Outlining his manifesto, Habimana promised to improve education standards, create jobs through industrialization, and attract investors by leveraging his experience and networks in media, marketing, and communications.

He also highlighted tourism promotion and lobbying for Kabale to attain city status as key priorities, arguing that the change would spur employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.“Once Kabale becomes a city, more jobs will be created, especially in the tourism and service sectors,” he noted.

Habimana further committed to advocating for the construction of modern district headquarters, saying better administrative infrastructure would enhance service delivery and efficiency.

The Electoral Commission has assigned “Radio” as his official campaign symbol, a nod to his long career in the media industry.

His entry into the race is expected to heighten competition for the Kabale LCV chairperson seat in the forthcoming general elections.
