UWA Disburses Over Shs2Bn to 3 Districts Neighboring Bwindi-Mgahinga Mt. Gorilla Parks

Uganda Wildlife Authority, (UWA) has disbursed Shs2,197,559,618 to communities neighboring Bwindi-Mgahinga Impenetrable Mt Gorilla National Parks.

 

These are the two main Mountain Gorilla Parks located in South Western Uganda. Bwindi is located in South Western Uganda in Kanungu district whereas Mgahinga is found in Kisoro district.

 

According to a statement shared by UWA today, 20th June, 2025, the districts that benefitted are Kanungu taking Shs1,175,006,492, Kisoro with Shs636,120,504 and Rubanda with Shs386,432,622.

 

UWA conserves and manages Uganda’s wildlife resources within and outside Protected Areas.

 

The funds generated from tourism will support schools, health centers, water access, and local livelihoods. Because conservation thrives when communities thrive.

 

The event that took place on Thursday, 19th June, 2025 was presided over by the Chairman UWA Board of Trustees Prof. James Kalema who represented Hon. Tom Butime the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities at Buhoma Visitor Information Centre in Kanungu District.
