Uncertainty as Beti Kamya’s contract expires

Date:

Uncertainty prevails at the office of the Inspectorate of Government after Beti Kamya’s contract officially expired on Monday, September 22.

Sources close to State House indicate that the president is yet to extend her four-year term, which began in 2021, signaling a potential shift in leadership at the IG.

Kamya’s tenure, however, has been marred by a series of controversies, including high-profile investigations that drew criticism for perceived leniency or overreach. In early September, Museveni publicly rebuked the IGG’s office over an “illegal interdiction order” against a senior public servant, a move that reportedly deepened rifts within the administration.

“It is crisis mode at the office, staff on tenterhooks, files piling up, and no clear direction,” a source in the IG’s office told Bbeg Media.

As of today, there is no official statement has been issued from State House or the IGG’s office, leaving room for speculation about replacements.

Analysts warn that the delay in renewing her contract could hamper ongoing investigations into high-stakes cases, such as those involving public procurement irregularities.
