Ugandan’s Peruth Chemutai has set an outstanding season’s best of 8:54.41 in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Wanda Diamond League in Paris, finishing second behind Kenya’s Faith Cherotich, who won with a world-leading time of 8:53.37.

The race was held on Friday, June 20, 2025, exactly at 21:23 local time (Paris time) at Stade Sébastien Charléty.

The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) congratulated Chemutai for her performance on their X official handle.

“Congratulations to Peruth Chemutai for an incredible season best of 8:54.41, finishing 2nd in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Wanda Diamond League in Paris! Hats off to Kenya’s Cherotich for a stunning win with a world-lead of 8:53.37. What a race,” reads UAF X post.

Her performance in Paris 2025 was a season best and part of a highly competitive race featuring top athletes like Cherotich and Sembo Almayew who finished third with a time of 9:01.22.

Chemutai continues to be a leading contender in the event, building on her Olympic success and strong Diamond League showings. This race further cements her status as one of the premier steeplechasers in the world.

Chemutai’s progression from a 9:31.03 heat time at the 2016 Olympics to sub-9-minute performances shows her steady improvement in speed, technique, and race strategy.

Furthermore the time builds on her previous achievements, including her 2020 Olympic gold and 2024 Olympic silver medals, as well as national records she has set and broken over the years.
