As Radio Week kicked off to honor the lost half of the dynamic duo Radio and Weasel, several Ugandan artists came forward to share their memories and honor Mowzey Radio’s 7th Death Anniversary

Radio week falls around the birthday to the death anniversary of the late Mowzey Radio. This week features events, music performances, various tv stations play a lot of his music throughout the week as a way of honoring his legacy.

A few of the musicians had things to say when interviewed about the late Mowzey whose impact on Ugandan music remains indisputable. Among the artists who were interviewed were Kalifa AganagaAnknownVampino, and Red Banton, who all had special stories to tell about Radio.

Kalifa Aganaga: “I remember Radio as a special unique artist” Singer Kalifa Aganaga says that there are a lot of artists trying to replicate Radio’s sound but they will never get it right. The singer remembers Radio as a singer with a special talent and says the late Mowzey introduced urban music in the Ugandan music industry.

He also suggested that each year, a special concert should be held in his honor to help support the family of the musical icon.

“The profits from this concert should be given to Radio’s family to ensure that they are well taken care of.”

Anknown: “I Always Wanted to Work With Him” Anknown, another young talented musician shared how he deeply admired Radio and how he had always dreamt of collaborating with him. It’s unfortunate that the singer passed away just before Anknown started his career as a musician and he never got the chance to work with him.

Anknown says Radio’s influence in the music industry will always be remembered even by artists who didn’t have the opportunity to work directly with him.

Red Banton: “We Used to Hang Out in Makindye Together.” Red Banton, a veteran artist who knew Radio even before fame reminisced about their early days together. He only had good things to say about the late and his craft and how Radio helped him write some of his best songs back in the day.

Red Banton also had the thought of holding a concert in Radio’s memory annually and the profits given to the late singer’s family.

Vampino: “He Was an Intelligent Man” Vampino described him as not only an incredibly talented artist but also an intelligent man and that it excites him to know that Radio’s legacy lives on.

He then shared a story of how he almost got arrested all thanks to Radio.

“One time, we were out racing in our cars, and my car jammed while Radio sped ahead leaving me behind. When I went out to buy more fuel for my car,I found it surrounded by army officers who thought my car had a bomb in it.Luckily a few people had witnessed what had happened and they helped me get of the hook.”

Vampino also says that the Ugandan music industry slowed down after the death of radio because there will never be anybody like him.

As the music community comes together to remember Radio during this special week,it’s clear that the void left by Radio will never be filled and that he left a Legacy that will continue to live on.
