Uganda’s Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, has earned a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Management from Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Ssenyonyi was among more than 1,500 students who graduated at UCU’s 26th graduation ceremony held Friday at the university’s main campus in Mukono.

He attended the event with his wife, Febress Nagawa Ssenyonyi, and his mother, Dorothy Nankunda.

“Thanking God for yet another academic qualification attained today,” Ssenyonyi posted on X, formerly Twitter, where he has more than 830,000 followers.

His thesis focused on corruption and its impact on service delivery in his home constituency of Nakawa West.

This latest degree adds to a growing academic record. He earned a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University in 2021, and earlier this year completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre—qualifying him as an advocate.

His wife, Febress, also took to X to share a personal tribute.

“Congratulations to you, Joel Ssenyonyi, upon attaining a Masters in Organizational Leadership and Management,” she wrote. “Webale butazanyisa school fees.”

The couple, married since 2020, have two children.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba, who serves as UCU’s Chancellor. He praised the graduates and their families for their persistence.

“We gather to celebrate the goodness of the Lord,” he said. “To our graduates—this is just the beginning. Lifelong learning awaits.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, represented at the event by Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John Kitayimbwa, announced that of the 1,524 graduates, 56% were women.

Forty-nine students graduated with First Class honours, including 24 women and 25 men.

All certificates and transcripts, the university said, are ready for collection.

Ssenyonyi began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Business Statistics from Makerere University before transitioning into law and leadership studies.
