Police in Tororo Municipality have opened a murder investigation following the suspected killing of a 21-year-old boda boda rider in what is believed to be an aggravated robbery.
The victim, Micheal Okongo, a resident of Agururu A3 Cell and operator at the Thunder Sports Bar Stage, was discovered dead on Monday morning along John Ekakoro Road, with visible head injuries and his motorcycle missing. Authorities believe he was violently attacked.

The incident was reported by the local council chairperson after a passerby spotted the body around 6:30 a.m. Investigators recovered several items from the scene, including a bloodied cap, a damaged motorcycle mirror, and a smartphone believed to be Okongo’s.
Using a canine unit, police tracked the scent from the scene to a nearby home and arrested Joseph Opendi, 39, a fellow boda boda rider from the area. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Police suspect robbery was the motive but are not ruling out the possibility of additional suspects. The stolen red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle had not been recovered by Tuesday.
Authorities have expressed concern over security gaps in residential areas—including lack of lighting and surveillance—and urged residents to strengthen neighborhood safety measures. Boda boda riders were also warned to be extra cautious, especially during late hours.
