Tiktoker Drowns In River Nile; Body Still Missing

Date:

Police in Njeru are conducting a search for the body of a TikToker who drowned in River Nile on December 1, 2024, during an outing at the Nile Resort in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.

The victim has been identified as Issa Ssekamanya, who was part of a group that had traveled from Kampala for a leisure trip. While playing netball near the river, a ball was thrown toward Ssekamanya but landed in the river. In an attempt to retrieve it, he ventured into the deep section of the river and drowned.

Efforts by his friends to rescue him were unsuccessful. Instead of seeking immediate assistance, the group returned to Kampala and informed his parents about the incident the following day. The family reported the matter to Njeru Police on December 2, 2024.

Police confirm that Ssekamanya’s body is still missing, and efforts to retrieve it are ongoing. The search is complicated by the river’s strong rapids and fast-moving waters in the deep section where the incident occurred. Authorities believe the body may be found downstream near the Bujagali Hydro Power Dam.

Investigations are also underway, with police seeking to locate one individual allegedly connected to the incident.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of caution when near water bodies and adherence to safety measures to avoid similar tragedies. This incident highlights the need for greater awareness and preparedness when engaging in activities near potentially hazardous waters.
