However, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango later clarified that the incident was a staged comedy skit, conducted without the knowledge or consent of those present. Police identified the individual as Tokosi Ngoli, a Congolese national known for creating humorous TikTok videos.
Ngoli was arrested and charged with being armed in public, a charge that stems from carrying a weapon in a way that could alarm or endanger others. His case has been forwarded to the State Attorney for further legal action.
The incident highlights a growing trend among content creators who film exaggerated pranks in public spaces in a bid for viral fame. While such videos often draw attention, authorities warn that they can breach legal and ethical boundaries—especially when they incite fear or public disorder.
SSP Onyango emphasized that while the event posed no real threat, the misuse of social media to create panic under the guise of entertainment is unacceptable. He cautioned that future stunts involving weapons or simulated violence in public will be prosecuted.
The police urged content creators to balance creativity with responsibility, stressing the importance of maintaining public safety and respecting the rights and peace of all citizens.
