Theology Teacher Arrested for Alleged Aggravated Defilement of 8-Year-Old Pupil

Date:

A theology teacher identified as Abubakari Ngobi, 45, a resident of Walukuba West in the Southern Division and a staff member at Multiple Junior School in Jinja City, has been arrested over allegations of aggravated defilement involving an 8-year-old pupil.

Abubakari Ngobi was arrested on Tuesday, April 22, 2024, five days after committing the heinous act.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Jinja City and the wider Busoga sub-region, with the community expressing outrage and disbelief. Many are questioning how a person entrusted with teaching religious values and guiding young minds could allegedly commit such a heinous act against a child under his care and protection.

Locals claim that Ngobi had previously been involved in a similar incident in Kamuli District, although authorities are still working to verify the authenticity of that allegation.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly lured the young girl with pancakes and Minute Maid juice within the school premises on April 17th, the day the incident is said to have occurred.

Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi, stated: “The Kiira Regional Police Command takes cases of sexual assault against children and women very seriously. The victim has undergone a medical examination and has been found to be of sound mind. Conclusive evidence links the suspect to the scene of the crime.”

SP Mubi confirmed that Ngobi is in custody and will be charged with aggravated defilement. A case file has been opened, and the suspect is currently detained pending court proceedings.

He further warned: “All individuals who intend to exploit girls and women through sexual abuse or involvement in child trafficking will be dealt with decisively under the laws of this country.”
