Uganda Cranes Looses Home Match To South Africa’s Bafana Bafana

Date:

The Mandela National Stadium-Namboole was full of celebration as the Uganda Cranes versed South Africa (Bafana Bafana) in a tough African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers clash on Friday, November 15, 2025. Despite their spirited performance, the Cranes lost 2-0, with goals from Thapelo Morena in the 49th minute and Patrick Maswanganyi’s late goal in the 89th minute securing victory for South Africa.

The match, officiated by Alhadji Allaoi Mahamat from Chad, alongside assistants Issa Bogola and Moussa Hafiz, was fiercely contested from start to finish.

Uganda, already assured of a spot in AFCON 2025 following South Sudan’s victory over Congo the previous day, played with energy and determination.

Regardless Goalkeeper Ismail Watenga, conceding 2 goals, stood out with exceptional saves, keeping Uganda in contention throughout the match. South Africa’s win has seen them top Group K with 11 points after ending Uganda’s unbeaten record.

Uganda, currently second with 10 points, will now face Congo in a final group game on November 19, 2024, at the Alphonse Massamba-Debat Stadium in Brazzaville.

Mandela National Stadium, often a fortress for the Uganda Cranes, was filled with passionate supporters, creating an electrifying atmosphere. The match not only symbolized the country’s commitment to football but also represented the pride and aspirations of Ugandan fans who always rally behind the national team.

The loss might have killed the celebratory mood, but Uganda’s qualification for AFCON 2025, their first since 2019, remains a source of national pride.
