Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM electoral commission chairperson, has fired back at the former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who accused him of being partial in her race with Anita Among.
Speaking to delegates recently, Kadaga alleged that Odoi was in the pockets of Among, with whom she is competing for the position of the second national vice chairperson of the NRM.
But Odoi said he had the credibility and experience to steer the commission; therefore, those attacking him, like Kadaga, needed to understand that he neither holds any personal interest nor influence within the NRM.
“Recently, I heard Kadaga attacking me that I will not be able to steer a fair election. I want to say I have the credibility and experience to do my work, and the commission is committed to handling all petitions that were raised,” he told a press briefing at his office along Kyadondo Road.
Odoi also revealed that many of the registrars are likely to lose their jobs once once the NRM Tribunal finalises its work because many were implicated in electoral malpractices in last month’s party primaries.
“We have received complaints from some aspirants that some of our registrars were involved in altering the election results and influencing the outcomes of the elections during primaries. This was against the laws of our party constitution, and therefore we are only waiting for evidence from the tribunal to punish, however was mentioned,” he said.
Odoi summoned all CEC aspirants for a meeting at the commission offices on August 12. In the meeting, the aspirants will be given guidelines on their elections and conduct. Odoi urged the aspirants to avoid using abusive language.
