The State House has indicated that several slots for senior presidential advisors and presidential assistants remain unfilled.
According to the ministerial policy statement for the presidency for the financial year 2026/2027, at least 27 slots are yet to be filled.
For instance, 9 slots for senior presidential advisor (Investment) remain vacant. According to the report, the State House targeted 15, but only six are filled.
According to the ministerial policy statement, the State House intends to pay each Shs 8 million per month. Accordingly, the State House wants to be given Shs 864 million to cater for this in the coming financial year.
Ten more special presidential assistants (mobilisation) are needed. Currently, the State House employs 20 people in the position.
The president still needs eight people to serve as special presidential assistants (Political Affairs). Currently, he has only 20. These are paid Shs 7.3 million per month, and in total, State House needs Shs 700 million.
The news is likely to come as a shock to many Ugandans who believe that Museveni already has too many advisors. The president has more than 150 advisors, according to the ministerial statement, who are paid salaries ranging from Shs 100 million per month to Shs 2 million.
Some advisors have previously confessed in the media that they never get to ‘advise’ the president.
