Emmanuel Ssempala Kigozi, the former MP for Makindye Ssabagabo, has pledged to improve service delivery programs in Wakiso District if elected as the district chairperson in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking recently at the National Unity Platform (NUP) party headquarters in Kavule, where he had come to express support for some party aspirants at local government level, Kigozi expressed confidence in his ability to lead the district effectively.
“I assure the people of Wakiso District that I am the best candidate for district chairperson. My credentials and experience in both local government and parliament equip me to uplift the conditions of our people,” Kigozi told Bbeg Media.
He emphasized his deep understanding of law and governance, describing himself as articulate, knowledgeable, and people-centered.
Kigozi said his extensive engagement with the community, having attended over 240 functions in the district, has given him insight into pressing issues such as poor road infrastructure, inadequate schools, wetland mismanagement, youth unemployment, family neglect, drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, and the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, particularly on the district’s islands.
Kigozi commended the outgoing district chairperson, Matia Lwanga Bwanika, for his significant contributions to Wakiso’s development.
He promised to build on these achievements to foster economic growth and development in the rapidly urbanizing district.
Noting that Wakiso is a major tax revenue contributor, Kigozi vowed to lobby for these funds to directly benefit residents by addressing their concerns and improving infrastructure and services.
Kigozi is competing for the NUP party ticket against Najja Nasif to become the party’s candidate for district chairperson. The winner of the NUP primaries will face candidates from the NRM, FDC, PFF, DF and other parties in the 2026 elections.
