The incumbent Member of Parliament for Soroti City West, Jonathan Ebwalu has vowed to defeat his opponent, Calvin Echodu in the coming general elections accusing him of land grabbing.

Ebwalu who addressed enthusiastic supporters after his nomination on Wednesday, 17th June, 2025 for the same seat under the Forum for Democratic Change, (FDC) called out Echodu for allegedly being involved in grabbing Green Spaces in Soroti City including, the controversial Golf Course.

Echodu is also accused of using his Pilgrim Africa, a Religious Founded NGO of taking over Soroti Municipal Secondary School, which Ebwalu says belongs to Soroti City.

Speaking in a mixture of Kumam, Ateso and English, Ebwalu swore never to allow Echodu go to Parliament, considering his dubious land deals in the City.

Ebwalu promises a repeat of the 2021 General Elections where as an Independent Candidate, he beat NRM’s Echodu after garnering 7, 248 votes against Echodu’s 5,286 who came second.

The political temperature in Soroti City is at its maximum, with Echodu struggling to wrestle both the Soroti City West MP seat and NRM National Vice Chairman, Eastern from the incumbents, Ebwalu and Capt Mike Mukula respectively.

However, the allegations of land grabbing, using a Phony NGO for personal gain, lack of oratory skills, and an overstretched political ambitions, are likely to negatively impact on his aspirations for the two seats.
