The Sironko district local government has received Shs3 billion from the African Development Bank to construct the Mutufu market in Mutufu Town Council.
According to Robert Gidiwi, the LC III Chairperson of Mutufu Town Council, this funding is part of a larger Shs46 billion allocation for the construction of the Nalugugu-Budadiri circular road.
The proposed market will have a capacity to accommodate 10,000 people and will feature modern facilities, including lockups and stalls. Gidiwi urged the public to support the project.
Nelson Kiranda, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Sironko district, today Thursday, 3rd July, 2025 confirmed that the funds are available and that surveyors have been engaged to map out the market site ahead of construction, which is expected to commence shortly.
Kiranda emphasized that the market will boost the local economy by providing a platform for farmers to sell their produce.
Philimon Madoi, a vendor at the current temporary market, welcomed the development, saying it will improve their livelihoods.
He noted that the existing market lacks proper structures, forcing vendors to operate alongside the road, which poses risks, especially during the rainy season.
