The Chief Magistrate at Mwanga II Mengo Chief Magistrate’s Court, His Worship Adams Byarugaba, has sentenced seven teachers to one year in prison over their involvement in examination malpractice during the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The court heard that the convicted teachers participated in irregularities that occurred in Kassanda District, which was identified as a major hotspot for exam malpractice during the 2025 PLE period.
According to prosecution, the accused were part of a broader scheme that undermined the integrity of the national examinations. The case centers on allegations that the Director of Nkoba Primary School colluded with the Kassanda District Inspector of Schools to unlawfully access and cut examination materials before the official start time. The materials were then reportedly shared electronically with candidates.
The latest convictions bring the total number of individuals found guilty in connection with the Kassanda examination malpractice case to 15 out of 30 suspects initially charged.
Authorities have emphasized that the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to restore credibility and fairness in Uganda’s education system, warning that those involved in similar offenses will face severe legal consequences.
