A tragic shooting at Shumuk Aluminium Ltd in Nakawa Division on the evening of January 30, 2025, resulted in the deaths of three people, including the shooter.
Authorities are investigating the incident, in which two security guards lost their lives before the attacker turned the gun on himself.
Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed that Emmanuel Machugayi, a security guard with Ryayo Security Group Ltd, fatally shot his colleagues, Ashiraf Kakyebezi, 21, and Stephen Owechi.
Preliminary findings indicate that Machugayi obtained a firearm from a fellow guard and opened fire without provocation.
Following the attack, he attempted to escape but was soon surrounded by security forces. Rather than surrender, he took his own life.
The Jinja Road Police Division responded swiftly, launching an investigation and collecting key evidence, including three bodies, two rifles, and several cartridges. The bodies were transported to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Eyewitnesses, including security officers present at the scene, have provided statements, though the motive behind the attack remains unknown. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
