Hilary Byaruhanga, 28, a private security guard, has been arrested in Kanungu after allegedly shooting dead his employer, Anthony Mutinisa, 53, proprietor of Mutinisa Motors, and fleeing with cash and a luxury SUV.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that Byaruhanga, attached to Don World Security Limited, allegedly killed Mutinisa on Sunday evening and stole the victim’s Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (registration UA 769 BQ), which has since been recovered in Katwe Cell, Kihihi Town Council.
Byaruhanga was arrested alongside Mark Akampa, whose involvement is still under investigation. Authorities are working to uncover the motive behind the crime. Investigations suggest Byaruhanga disabled CCTV footage to cover his tracks before fleeing toward Kanungu District, near the DRC border. Military Intelligence joined police in the pursuit.

Colleagues revealed that Byaruhanga, who had access to company operations and received salaries both from Don World Security and directly from Mutinisa, had been trusted with company errands and trained to drive, casting doubt on claims of workplace mistreatment.
After the murder, Byaruhanga reportedly sent chilling messages to staff and his supervisor stating: “Something bad has happened.” The recovered SUV will be returned to the family, while stolen cash is being accounted for.
Authorities are reviewing Byaruhanga’s communications and past activities to determine if he acted alone or as part of a larger plan. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
