Celebrated videographer, movie director, and cinematographer Sasha Vybz has revealed that he is working to open a film school to equip young creatives with filmmaking skills.
Sasha Vybz, real name Ian Akankwasa, in a recent interview, revealed that for the past 14 years he has been in the game, he felt he owed it to the people to start something that would influence and equip the young generation with skills. To him, the film school was ideal, and he hoped it would help shift the narrative of African content creators about the industry.
Most people want to come into the industry, milk it, and take out all that money for their own selfish interest. I wouldn’t want to follow the same journey because the industry raised me. It has fed me, and these people have loved what I have created and put food on my table. If I can leave a legacy that inspires these young people, why not? Sasha questioned.
Sasha Vybz maintained that he didn’t start his film school solely to make money, but he will also offer scholarships and bursaries to help young people who can’t afford it but still have the dream.
It is something I’m creating as a give-back to the community. I feel like it will help so many young people.
Sasha Vybz says his upcoming project will be a one-stop shop where the young creative can get inspired and experience the behind-the-scenes of what has made him who he is today.
