Comedian Sammy Okanya has come out to address the swirling rumour suggesting that he had received financial help from Bebe Cool to switch to the NRM party.
For some time, Sammy has been battling an illness associated with his urinary system. His to and fro different medical facilities saw him choked on heavy medical bills, resorting to soliciting for financial aid on the internet, calling upon users, especially celebrities, to help relieve him of the financial burden.
Among the celebrities who reached out to him was Bebe Cool, who pledged to help cover part of his medical bills and facilitate his surgery. Due to Sammy’s unparalleled support for Bobi Wine and the NUP, many concluded that he had switched sides in exchange for financial assistance.
He was criticized for allegedly betraying the party he supports, but in a series of videos on his TikTok account, Sammy denied the allegations. He emphasized that he didn’t ask for money from the NRM party as a promise that he would switch allegiance from the party he subscribed to.
“Bebe Cool has never asked me first to support the government for him to give me money. They helped me as a person who supports the NUP party and believes in Kyagluanyi Ssentamu and his political ideology,” he said.
Sammy further noted that he was more focused on his health and appreciated any benefits that the help brought.

“At this point, they are not looking at me as a person, but my health. I thought Ugandans were helping me because of that. Let’s focus on those who have been saying that I’m sick. But if you are driving my life with a different agenda, then it is sad because my life is no longer about which party I support and politics. I stand as Sam to save my life first,” he said.
