Rubis Energy links clean energy push with 40.2 million UGX donation for survivors

Ugandan energy firm Rubis commits to social responsibility, integrating clean LPG solutions into a partnership that aids teen mothers and abuse survivors.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Rubis Energy Uganda has committed $10,800 or roughly UGX 40.2 million to partner with The Remnant Generation, a faith-based nongovernmental organization that aids survivors of sexual abuse and teen mothers.

The corporate social responsibility partnership, announced at a handover event at The Remnant Generation headquarters in the Busega area of Kampala, aims to support the healing, restoration and empowerment of young women and girls across Uganda.

The agreement will provide in-kind support for the organization’s shelters, supplying household items, food, sanitary and learning materials for the group’s Restoration, Health and Thrive programs. The Thrive program includes early childhood development, hair dressing and formal education. Rubis will also provide fuel for the organization’s service van.

In a move toward sustainability, the energy company is facilitating the transition of The Remnant Generation shelters from charcoal use to Liquefied Petroleum Gas, or LPG, for cooking.

Officials said this shift aligns with Rubis Energy’s commitment to promoting cleaner energy while enhancing safety and health in communities.

William Humbert-Marie Fillet, managing director of Rubis Energy Uganda, praised The Remnant Generation for its decade of work—saying the partnership “embodies our values of compassion, empowerment, and sustainability.”

“At Rubis, we believe that every partnership should create meaningful, lasting change. Our collaboration with The Remnant Generation embodies our values of compassion, empowerment, and sustainability. We are proud to stand with an organization that has transformed thousands of lives through love, faith, and practical support. This initiative reflects our belief that when we empower women and girls, we build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities,” he said.

Henry Karuhanga, Rubis CSR manager, added that by providing access to cleaner energy, health resources, and vocational tools, the company is “contributing to a safer, more dignified environment for these young women to heal and thrive.”

The Remnant Generation was founded by Executive Director Annabelle Nakabiri Ssebakijje, whose personal experience as a survivor of sexual abuse and early betrothal fueled her conviction to help vulnerable girls.

Ssebakijje noted that the support from Rubis will significantly improve the quality of care.

“For many of the girls we serve, a safe environment, proper nutrition, and access to clean energy are lifelines,” Ssebakijje said.

In its decade of operation, The Remnant Generation has provided sanctuary for young women and girls through shelters like the Princess Shelter for teenage mothers and the Juveniles of Honor home for abused girls. The organization has impacted more than 7,000 lives through a holistic “3RT Model” of Rescue, Restore, Repurpose, Thrive, which focuses on counseling, health care, education and skills training.
