Renowned singer and songwriter Shena Skies has opened up about the significant challenges that she has faced while dealing with artists in the industry.
During her radio interview, Shena noted that the songwriting business doesn’t earn much as they only earn a ‘day fee’ even when a song becomes a hit. As songwriters, they are usually forgotten after their deals are done.
The only way she hoped to get some money was through streaming platforms; every time a user listened to or bought the song, they were entitled to a certain percentage as writers. This, however, has been a challenge since there are few views.
As writers, we usually stop at the day’s fee. It is like airtime. Artists often forget you when they perform their songs or even give a concert. I understand that is just human nature,” she said.
Shena also recounted the time she wrote a song for Diamond under a gentleman’s agreement, but he ended up listing himself as the sole writer of the song. When she tried cashing out, her account was blocked because she was not a registered writer.

For Diamond, I had high hopes that I would earn some money because he had a lot of views, but they closed down my account because he had listed himself as the sole writer. Another song was the one I wrote for Spice Diana and Mbosso, but because of that saga, my account remained closed up to this date, she said.

Shena further explained that the only way she had to have her account back in operation was to contact Diamond, who no longer picks up her calls.
I have to look for Diamond in person, but it’s tough for him to pick up his calls since our deal together was completed. Even Mbosso and Spice Diana, it is hard to get access to them, Shena revealed.
