Singer Rickman Manrick has given his ex-girlfriend Sheilah Gashumba her flowers for her significant role in his music career.
During his appearance on a podcast, Rickman reflected on his early career, revealing that Sheilah Gashumba motivated him to pursue many things in music.
He credited Sheilah Gashumba for her monumental efforts in helping him reach big stages like Blankets and Wines and Roast and Rhyme.
He clarified that her contribution was not about directly approaching event organizers to demand his inclusion, but rather about the direction she gave to his music and his overall growth as an artist. According to him, the image she helped shape and the guidance she offered opened doors to the industry’s primary stages.
Rickman further pointed out that many prominent artists in Uganda had never had the opportunity to perform at Blankets and Wine, and he gave his ex-girlfriend a shout-out for helping him achieve that milestone.
He further emphasized that Sheilah Gashumba did her best to elevate his lifestyle, especially in his fashion choices. However, he acknowledged that he never really aspired to be the flashy, high-end “diamond or platinum” type of artist.

Instead, he explained that he wanted to be more of a J. Cole-style artist, simple, grounded, and authentic. For him, an H&M shirt, black jeans, and a pair of pearl sneakers were more than enough to feel comfortable and confident.
He said that Sheilah Gashumba did an excellent job with his music and deserved to be commended. He noted that she wanted him to reach greater heights and acknowledged that, at this stage, she played a significant role in his journey.
