Musician Rehan Nalumansi has expressed her disappointment with bar owners who expect band singers to come along with their audiences on the nights they are scheduled to perform.
Renah Nalumansi, the proprietor of Renah N’ Band, has been performing in bars for several years, and ups and downs have marked her journey. During a TV interview, the singer noted that she has tried to find gigs at different hangout spots, but, to her disappointment, these opportunities are always determined by a performer’s social media following.
“I want to speak about the bar owners. When you go to ask for gig nights, they always ask how big your following is and how many people know the band. I do not think the band following matters, I think as a bar, you have to have your own people already,” she said.
According to Renah, a bar should have its own crowd that regularly supports it and uses the band as an extra draw to attract more people.
She believes the band nights would be more exciting and gain more popularity if it were a combined effort rather than one-sided.

“But some places want us to come with our people from different places; I don’t know where from. They do not know that those nights need pushing and promotion. You push the night, and it slowly gains momentum. They should relax and work together with us. Give me something to work with, and I will do the same,” she said.
